St. James’ tolling bells to honour murdered and missing indigenous women

St. James Anglican Church here in Stratford is taking part in a nationwide campaign starting on Sunday.

Anglican churches across the country will toll their bells 51 times each day for 22 days.  It’s to raise awareness and honour the 1,122 indigenous women and girls who were murdered or went missing between 1980 and 2012.

Sunday also coincides with the closing ceremonies of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.  The bells will be rung at 1:00 p.m. and finish by 1:30 p.m. each day.
