Students stuck at schools yesterday due to bad weather

Yesterday’s lousy weather moved in with such speed and intensity it caught many people off guard.

A number of students were already at school or on their way when the blowing snow trapped in their schools and buses.

The students and teachers at Downie Central in particular had quite the adventure.

Due to closed roads and poor driving visibility the kids were stuck there until 9:00pm and the staff members were preparing for them to spend the night at the school.

Principal John Carr says the students were well looked after last night.

The Avon Maitland District School Board would like to thank all the local businesses, communities, OPP, bus operators, parents and staff in for ensuring the well-being and safety of each student throughout the day.
