Mulcair visits area dairy farm

Tom Mulcair visited our area today.  He stopped by Slits Dairy Farm near Brunner.

The federal NDP leader toured the facility with Perth-Wellington NDP candidate Ethan Rabidoux.  During the visit Mulcair questioned Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s dedication to supply management:

Supply management is a system that limits the amount of dairy and poultry products produced to control prices.  It allows for farmers in the sector to make money without relying on government subsidies.

Rabidoux echoed Mulcair’s statements, saying he’s been a long-time supporter of supply management:

Mulcair also outlined a payment protection program for produce farmers.  He said an NDP government would invest in rural Canada:

Rabidoux added he believes the NDP will make gains in rural Canada in the upcoming election:

The visit was part of Mulcair’s Ontario Tour for Change.
