Operational review recommends a few changes to Stratford Fire Department

The Stratford Fire Department could use a couple of changes.  That’s the conclusion of an operational review that was presented to city council.

The report was put together by Pomax Consulting out of London.  Among the recommended changes is the possibility of combining dispatch with the police.

The report says the city should also begin planning to renovate, rebuild or expand both fire halls and should take a look at building a joint police-fire headquarters.

Pomax also recommended a minimum staffing level of 40 firefighters, which is how many the city has right now.  The report was against a composite fire department for Stratford.  That’s a model in which both full-time and volunteer firefighters are used.
