Woodstock resident nearly falls victim to secret shopper scam

There’s a fraud warning out from police in Woodstock.

A resident was looking online for work when they came across a listing from a company claiming to run a “secret shopper” program.

The resident got in touch with the company and eventually got a fake cheque for $2418.36.  The company used the name “hr@goodlonksllc” and was in the Mississauga area.

The person was supposed to deposit the cheque in their own account, keep $400, then send the rest back.  If the resident had have done that they’d have been on the hook for the $2,000.

Remember that an honest company wouldn’t ask you for cash and if something sounds too good to be true it probably is.  Get in touch with the police if you think someone has or has tried to scam you.
