Alberta moves to safeguard against PED as virus spreads in Ontario

The Alberta Government is taking steps to protect its pig farmers from PED.

The Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea has ravaged pig herds in the USA and there are 25 confirmed cases in Ontario.

The most recent case was in Bruce County at a Finisher operation.

The virus has also spread to Manitoba, Quebec and PEI.

The Alberta government is giving farmers more time to apply for special funding to improve their farm biosecurity systems.

No outbreaks have been detected in Alberta.

There are four cases in Perth County, six in Oxford and one in Middlesex County.
