UTRCA reminding people to stay away from waterways

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is warning people to stay away from the waterways.

With the rain and recent warmer temperatures ice has become unstable and poses a significant danger.

Steve Sauder is with the UTRCA.

He says there’s one place in particular that should be avoided:

There’s also the risk of flooding.

Sauder says a gradual spring would be ideal to reduce that risk:

Earlier this week the UTRCA said waterways will rise to bank-full conditions due to the rain and melting snow.

They’re expected to stay that way well into the weekend.

Make sure to keep your pets and children away as the water is extremely cold and dangerous.
