Finnie, Marion

Marion Helene Finnie ( nee Kemp ) passed away at the Kingsway Nursing Home, St. Marys, on March 31st, 2014 at the age of 89. Beloved wife of Donald B. Finnie for 63 years of marriage. Dear Mother of Joan Leistner and husband Henry ( Toronto ), Barbara Finnie and husband John Peters ( Barrie ), Marilyn Armstrong and husband Ron ( Milton ) and Glenn ( St. Marys ). Proud and loving Grandmother of Greg and Trevor Armstrong, Jordan, Brandon & Breken Finnie, and Braeden Peters. Predeceased by her parents Lionel and Clara Kemp ( Kirkton ). Sister of Ruth ( deceased ) and brother-in-law Bob Richardson ( Simcoe ). Aunt to Lynne, An and spouses, Sister-in-law to Walter Finnie and Grace (St. Marys). Aunt to Ian, Carl, and Anne and their spouses. Marion graduated from teachers college and taught elementary grades for a number of years in the 1940’s until her marriage to Don. Marion was an active member of the St. Marys community through-out her life with many significant associations which included serving on the Board of Directors of the St. Marys Hospital Association, the St. Marys Hospital Auxiliary, and the United Church Women’s Group. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years from its inception in St. Marys. Marion also served on the Ontario Hospital Association Board of Directors as a high-light to her service to others through-out her life. In between raising an active family and her community service she was able to look after the significant accounting responsibilities on the family mink-ranch and cattle operation, plus enjoyed the pleasures of curling, golf & bridge with her many friends from the area.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at the Andrew L Hodges Funeral Home, 47 Wellington St. South, St. Marys ( 519-284-2820 ) on Saturday, April 5th at 2:00PM, with visitation prior to the service from 1:00PM to 2:00PM. Interment at the St. Marys Cemetery follows this service. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Perth County or the St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation.
