Maple Leaf Foods reaches closure agreement with Thamesford turkey plant workers

A closure agreement has been reached between Maple Leaf Foods and the workers at the Thamesford turkey processing plant. Maple Leaf is shutting down operations there and moving to a Sofina Foods plant in Mitchell, putting 350 people out of work.

Reports say the deal is better than what the Employment Standards Act requires but no details are available. Layoffs at the Thamesford plant will start in the spring but the plant will stay open until early next year.
