The bell of St. Marys will sound loud and proud tomorrow. The town hall bell will be rung for the first time since the early 2000’s to celebrate the completion of the bell tower reconstruction project.
Back then it was determined the tower could no longer safely accommodate the ringing. Last year the town awarded a contract to rebuild it. Mayor Al Strathdee says it was a complete overhaul:
There will be a ceremony where Strathdee and the Heritage St. Marys committee will say a few words before the bell is rung. The mayor says anyone who goes can own a piece of the old bell tower:
The ceremony gets underway at 11:50am. In the event of poor weather, it will be moved inside into Town Hall Council Chambers, and those who wish to hear the bell will be invited to stand on the covered front balcony following the speeches.
