New hatchery bringing new technology to Stratford

A new chicken hatchery being built in Stratford is looking to revolutionize the industry.

A consortium of Ontario farmers will be opening Trillium Hatchery next year.  The facility represents a $20 million investment in the city.

Trillium says as it stands now there are only three major producers of chicks in the province, all of which use traditional technologies. Using a new technology called HatchCare, Trillium wants to address growing consumer demand for things like chickens raised without antibiotics, improved animal welfare and a wider variety of products.

HatchCare is designed to improve the environment the chicks live in by giving them optimum temperatures, lighting and nutrition which leads to healthier animals.
