The Stratford Police Service is launching a review of all recent sexual assault cases.
This comes after a report in the Globe and Mail showed that between 2010 and 2014 the Stratford Police dismissed as unfounded 48 of 101 reports of sexual assault. Chief Mike Bellai says sexual assault is not something the Stratford Police take lightly:
He says the Stratford Police are committed to seeing justice served in these cases:
Bellai added that his officers are also committed to the victims:
Bellai says the comprehensive review will include all reports of sexual assault between 2010 and 2016. He says the goal of the review is to ensure there are no gaps in any of the cases investigated. Bellai added that victims must have confidence in reporting crimes of sexual assault and must understand the Stratford Police respect their dignity and have their best interests at heart.
