Ballantyne Avenue reconstruction sent back to committee

The Ballantyne Avenue reconstruction project has hit a bump in the road. At Monday night’s meeting Stratford city council voted to send the issue back to committee.

The issues at hand were whether or not speed bumps were needed, if enough public consultation was done, and if two sidewalks should be maintained. City policy states that only one sidewalk is to be rebuilt during road reconstruction in residential areas.

Keeping both sidewalks would add about $26,000 to the cost of the project. Some councillors wanted both sidewalks maintained because of how close Ballantyne is to the Festival Theatre.
