MPP’s firefighter safety bill to be debated at Queen’s Park today

Randy Pettapiece will be debating the Rea and Walter Act at Queen’s Park today. That’s the Perth-Wellington MPP’s private member’s bill aimed at protecting the lives of firefighters.

It’s named after North Perth firefighters Ken Rea and Ray Walter who died in the line of duty in Listowel in 2011. The roof of the building they were in, built using truss and lightweight construction, collapsed.

The act would require buildings using that type of construction to display an emblem on the outside to let firefighters know of the danger. Pettapiece’s debate begins around 1:30pm.
