Watch out for ticks

The Perth District Health Unit is urging people to be on the lookout for ticks. That’s because a blacklegged tick bite can give you Lyme disease.

While Perth County itself does not have a high population of blacklegged ticks popular destinations like the Pinery and Turkey Point provincial parks do.

The PDHU says ticks are usually found in forests and overgrown areas but you can be put in other areas. Wearing long sleeves, pants and closed-toe shoes and pulling your socks over your pant legs can help protect you from them.

You can find more information about how to prevent tick bites, and what to do if you are bitten by one, at the PDHU’s website.
