Governments invest in PED prevention

There are no new cases of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea in Ontario to report.

PED has also spread to PEI, Quebec and Manitoba but hasn’t yet reached Saskatchewan.

Officials in the prairies would like to keep it that way.

The federal and provincial governments are spending $400,000 to keep the pig disease out of the province or contain it if it does worm its way in.

PED has hit 52 farms in Ontario has killed millions of pigs in the United States since last May.

That includes six in Perth County, nine in Huron and nine in Oxford.

The nasty virus is not contagious to humans and does not impact meat quality.
