Margaret “Peggy” Balsdon (McEwin)

Peggy Balsdon, age 86, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at Greenwood Court, Stratford on Sunday, July 23, 2017. Peggy was born in Stratford (baptized at St. Andrews Church), daughter of the late Wilson (Skin) McEwin and the former Mabel Hutchison. Peggy lived all of her life in Stratford. You may have seen her babysitting many nieces, nephews and little ones for 14 years, working at Dorothy’s Bakery or at the Stratford Festival Theatre in the Box Office and ushering for 17 years. She was also a founding member of the Knoxettes Ladies Group at Knox Presbyterian Church.

Peggy had a love for traveling with her husband and family throughout Canada and the United States. She loved to go to dances with her husband, many car rides to different destinations and visit with family and friends, shopping the day away or hosting many parties at 20 Hesson Street. Peggy was a very proud and loving grandmother to Lynn-Ann and Jodi and a great Mama to Josh. They certainly all had many spoiling privileges with her. Beloved wife of the late Earl James Balsdon (2010) whom she married at Knox Presbyterian Church September 3, 1949. Loving mother of Eric Balsdon (Cheryl) and Sandra Kalbfleisch (George). Cherished grandmother of Lynn-Ann Kalbfleisch (Jay) and Jodi Kalbfleisch. Great grandmother of Joshua Atchison and Nicholas Atchison (stillborn 2005). Peggy is survived by her brother Bruce McEwin, sisters-in-law Lois McEwin, Cora McCann, Jacqueline Balsdon, Ferne Storey, Janette McEwin and brother-in-law Robert Campion. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and their families. Peggy was predeceased by her husband Earl, her parents, her parents-in-law William “Bill” Balsdon and Esther “Lillian” (Hepburn),  brothers Raymond, Jim, Jack, a sister Lillian, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Isabelle McEwin, Hilda McEwin, Dora McEwin, George Balsdon, Richard “Dick” Balsdon and wife Mary, Edith and Maurice Mitchell and Les McCann. We would like to thank all the staff and friends at Knollcrest Lodge and Greenwood Court for their wonderful friendships over the past 7 years.

Visitation will take place at Greenwood Court Chapel, 90 Greenwood Drive, Stratford on Tuesday, July 25, from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. Rev. Robert Hutchison will officiate. Interment will take place at Avondale Cemetery following the reception at Greenwood Court. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Greenwood Court, Knollcrest Lodge, Milverton or the Stratford/Perth Hospice Project through the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
