Nearly 200 Farmers Gather Over High-Speed Rail Plan Concerns

Farmers from southwestern Ontario between Woodstock and Tavistock are raising serious concerns over a proposed plan for a high-speed rail line.

The line would run from London to Toronto, via Kitchener-Waterloo.

The estimated price tag sits around $20 billion.

A price too high considering it’s not slated to make more rural stops such as in Woodstock or Stratford according to the nearly 200 farmers who gathered in Tavistock on Friday.

Concerns range from impact on wildlife, to questions over what existing rail lines will be used for, along with how it could affect drainage or tile systems in the region.
