Unemployment Rate Rises Slightly but Jobs in Service Sector, Part-Time Work Added

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says unemployment in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula region is slightly up.

It comes after the region reported a record low in unemployment earlier this summer.

Despite the numbers, part time-work is up over the last month, following a net-loss of full-time jobs in the region.

The organization says about 2,700 health care and social assistance jobs were added to the market over the course of August.

The board says the recent opening of Cowbell Brewery in Blyth, adding about 100 jobs to the area played a big role in last month’s numbers.
