UPDATE: School Buses Cancelled in Listowel as OPP Continues Search for Suspect in Area

UPDATE:

The OPP says a suspect remains at large as the canine unit and a helicopter have been brought in to assist in a search in Listowel.

The Avon Maitland District School Board says Hold and Secure has been lifted and to expect normal dismissal time for students.

The OPP says there are no concerns for public safety at this time.

Police say a suspect was pulled over in a stolen pick-up by Wingham Police early this morning where he assaulted an officer and stole a patrol vehicle.

The suspect then crashed the vehicle and took off on foot heading east on Binning Street East.

Police say the suspect is likely in his early 30s, with a thin build, short dark hair and was last seen wearing a black and red shirt.

School buses have been cancelled for the day for North Perth Westfield, Listowel Eastdale and St. Mary’s Catholic schools over concerns for safety.

If you see anyone matching the description or acting suspiciously you’re being asked to call 911 immediately.

The Perth and Huron County OPP have called in air support and the canine unit to track down a suspect believed to be in Listowel.

The Avon Maitland District School Board says buses have been cancelled for the day for North Perth Westfield, Listowel Eastdale and St. Mary’s Catholic schools.

The OPP says it’s actively looking for a male suspect, possibly in his thirties wearing a black and red shirt.

Police say officers realized a vehicle the suspect was driving was stolen and it failed to stop when flagged to pull over.

The OPP says the suspect crashed the vehicle on Barber Avenue North before taking off on foot.
