Decision to Build Bathroom on Lake Victoria Deferred Over Costs

Stratford City Council has deferred a decision to build a washroom on the north shore of Lake Victoria due to questions over the cost of the project.

The bathroom’s construction was estimated cost of around $175,000 was significantly lower than the winning bid of the project just shy of $234,000.

Director of Community Services David St. Louis says the high price-tag is due to water and sewer infrastructure needed at the site, along with brickwork to tie the bathroom into the surrounding areas.

Concerns were raised in the Accessibility Advisory Committee over providing proper support for anyone suffering from Crohn’s or other digestive conditions needing proper facilities at the site.
