Perth County OPP Using Education to Reduce Risk of ‘Crimes of Opportunity’

The Perth County OPP is turning to education in helping to prevent theft, as detachments have seen a steady trend recently.

Police say most are crimes of opportunity, meaning a thief will notice a vehicle may be unlocked or a garage left open and then robs victims.

Making sure your vehicle, even if it’s parked in your driveway, is locked and secured and similarly your home, garages, trailers and sheds.

The OPP says it also makes arrests regularly thanks to the public, whether it’s reporting a suspicious vehicle or person you could help solve a crime.
