College Students Returning to Class Tuesday

It’s back to work today for Ontario’s college faculty.  After a special weekend sitting legislation passed yesterday forcing the end to the college strike.

Students will be back in class tomorrow but will have to cut their Holiday break short.

The province says students facing financial pressure because of the longer semester will be able to apply for assistance, which includes a full refund of tuition should a student drop out because of the strike.

The ministry says students will have two weeks from the beginning of classes to decide if they want to continue with the short semester or get the refund.

Fanshawe College says its fall semester has been extended to January 16th, with the winter semester picking up on January 22nd and running to April 22nd of next year.

Conestoga College’s Vice President of Student Affairs Mike Dinning says the winter semester is set to begin on January 15 and that the mid-winter Student Success week from February 26th to March 7th will not be changed.

The college says it will be posting more academic information today to its website.
