Pettapiece Concerned Bill 148 Could Mean Huge Costs for Disability Services

Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece says the recent passing of Bill 148 will have collateral damage on agencies which handle developmental disabilities for Ontarians.

The bill lays out minimum wage increases from $11.60 an hour to $14 in the new year and $15 in 2019.

Local business groups and organizations along with Pettapiece have raised significant concerns over the pace at which the increase will be implemented.

Representatives from the Ontario Agencies Supporting Individuals with Special Needs says the changes will mean nearly $56 million in increased costs for its 200 members.

Pettapiece says the agencies haven’t seen a funding increase in nearly a decade.
