Perth County Federation of Agriculture Raising Concerns over Tax Burden

The Perth County Federation of Agriculture has made its case to county council regarding taxes.

Vice President of the federation, Tim Halliday says the farm tax burden in Perth County is estimated to top 31% by 2020.

However, council pressed the delegation for more concrete numbers and exact dollar values in relation to those estimates.

Warden Walter McKenzie agreed with Halliday that much of the perceived problems with tax rates are tied to the province.

The county’s budget also impacts farm taxes with an estimated 90 per cent of the county zoned as agriculture according to councillor Jim Aitcheson.

The federation will be meeting with the Western Ontario Wardens Caucus tomorrow as it continues to explore solutions to alleviate farm tax burdens.
