Economic Report Echoes Concerns of Local Business Owners and Employers

The Stratford District Chamber of Commerce says Bill 148 and the province’s economic climate is causing uncertainty and concern among local businesses according a recent economic report.

City councillor and GM of the chamber, Brad Beatty says economic policies north of the border coupled with uncertainty around NAFTA south of the border has created a perfect storm for local business owners and employers.

Bill 148 contains a great deal more than just a wage increase.

Local businesses biggest concern moving forward is making sure they are compliant with all of the new changes pertaining to part-time positions, vacation and sick leave according to Beatty.

He says other problems the region faces is attracting and retaining talent.

Beatty says despite strong unemployment numbers in the area currently, businesses are weary of the future.
