Perth County in Need of Plan for Long Term Care Beds

The administrator of Spruce Lodge says Perth County should start preparing its 706 long-term care beds for the future.

Peter Bolland spoke with county council last week on the matter, saying communities should start applying for the 5,000 additional care beds promised by the provincial government.

He says a boom of seniors is inbound between 2025 and 2050, expecting it to peak in 2045.

Bolland notes about half of Perth County’s long-term care homes have applied for redevelopment, a good sign for attracting beds.

Currently, Stratford and Listowel-based homes have the longest wait lists with the average wait time across the county sitting at 637 days with 464 people on those lists.
