Three people are facing a number of drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop by Stratford police over the weekend. The arrests took place close to midnight Saturday evening after officers saw a black Kia Forte driving erratically on Downie Street. The driver of the vehicle, whose a 57-year-old from Mitchell, and had been driving drug-impaired, and police also noticed a black handgun by his feet and arrested the man for possession of a dangerous weapon. The gun proved to be an air pistol, but police also found a small handheld hatchet under the driver’s seat along with 27 grams of crystal meth valued at around $3,000.00. The three accused, whose identities have not been released by police, face a total of 21 criminal charges, including possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited weapon for dangerous purposes and breach of probation. They were all held in custody for a bail hearing.
