More housing could be on the way for university students in Stratford

It could one day be easier for university students to find a place to live in Stratford.

At their meeting Monday night, Stratford’s Planning and Heritage Sub-Committee gave their approval for a zoning change that would see the owner of the Bradshaw Lofts on Downie Street add 12 more units to the building located near the University of Waterloo Stratford Campus.

It’s hoped by both the buildings owner and the school that students will one day live in the lofts which once completed could feature 60 units and 30 parking spots, the building is currently under development.

Brandon Flewwelling with the GSP Group represents the buildings owner and says the project must now be approved by Stratford Council and a bylaw must be passed before a timeline for completion is established.

“Ultimate planning isn’t known, there’s site plan approval still required along with the final zone change approval and so on so there’s still municipal processes to go through.”

Flewwelling adds that he thinks the lofts are a great “adoptive reuse for an existing building in a key location for the city.”
