Wicked weather in store this weekend for Stratford

There could be more freezing rain on the way for Stratford than originally thought.

Environment Canada has now updated their Special Weather Statement for the weekend saying they now expect the temperature Saturday afternoon to drop below zero and stay that way overnight and only go above the freezing mark late Sunday morning.

That means there could be twelve hours that freezing rain could fall over and we could see as much as twenty millimetres or more combined with high winds.

Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment Canada Peter Kimbell says the roads could be left a bit of a mess by the storm.

“I’m sure salting will be absolutely required and hopefully that will take care of it but side roads will certainly be possibly treacherous, drivers will want to be very careful from the afternoon hours on Saturday to maybe midday on Sunday.”

Kimbell adds the temperature on Saturday will be around nine degrees lower than normal for this time of the year which is quite unusual.
