Some areas could see flooding with rising temperatures

With snow still left over from a late blast of winter and the temperatures going up we could see some areas experience flooding.

Sunny skies and a high of 17 degrees are in the forecast for Monday with the only day over the next week where the temperature wont be in the double digits expected to be Wednesday with a high of eight, we are also expected to see plenty of rain over the next few days meaning things are going to get wet adding to the snow melt.

Peter Maranger with Co-operators Insurance in Stratford says changes we have seen over the last five years have lead to more areas being prone to flooding.

“People have finished their basements, they’re building houses where they shouldn’t be building houses, the ground if you will is getting paved everywhere and farmers are tiling their fields so what’s happening is the whole flow of water is literally changed.”

Maranger adds you can check their website to see if your home is in a flood zone.

You can visit www.cooperators.ca to find the tool.
