Trouble could lay ahead for those flying Westjet

Trouble could be on the horizon if you’re flying Westjet.

The airlines pilots recently voted 91 per cent in favor of a strike mandate and they will be in a legal position to commence job action as of Saturday with as many as 70 thousand possibly in danger of being stranded as a result.

Issues like compensation, working conditions and job security are among the stumbling blocks in negotiations.

Rob Blowes from Blowes Travel and Cruise Centres in Stratford says those impacted will have options in the event of a strike.

“Westjet has come out and said we’ll refund everybody’s tickets and Air Canada has ramped up some service on main routes to try and accommodate more passengers.”

The pilots say they wont take any job action before or over the upcoming long weekend.
