Medical students gaining firsthand experience during Discovery Week

Creating opportunities for medical students to experience rural and regional health care.

That’s the idea behind Discovery Week which has been put on for the last two decades by Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry and sees students receiving hands-on learning experiences in close to 30 communities across southwestern Ontario.

Discovery week is taking place during one of two weeks, May 22nd to May 25th or May 28th through June First.

This year, organizers say 28 first year medical students are shadowing physicians and visiting patients across the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance communities where they will gain a better understanding of how patient care is delivered in this community.
