Perth County’s Emergency Management Coordinator receives big honour

It’s a big honour for Perth County’s emergency management coordinator.

Dave Colvin was presented the inaugural Emergency Management Exemplary Service Award by Ralph Goodale, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety, during a ceremony last Thursday night in Ottawa.

Colvin was one of four people in Ontario to receive the award which is the result of a partnership between provincial, territorial and federal governments and goes to those who provide exceptional service and achievement across the country to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters.

Colvin, who has been in his position with Perth County for three years after coming from a similar role in London, says he believes it’s important to have a close relationship with the different emergency services in the area.

“You don’t want to be meeting agencies in the middle of the night on a holiday weekend, you need to work together.”

Colvin adds that it’s also important to learn from other emergency services to help you be better prepared should something happen.
