Perth-Wellington MP says Canadians wont live in fear after bomb threat against Stratford Festival

John Nater says the Stratford Festival showed their defiance after the forced cancellation of their opening night.

The MP for Perth-Wellington stood and spoke in the House of Commons in Ottawa on Tuesday, a day after the opening night performance of “The Tempest” was cancelled at the Festival Theatre after police received a bomb threat against the festival just before show time.

Nater said that the show will go on and Canadians will not live in fear or be intimidated by such threats.

He says Stratford is a great place for people to visit.

“I want to reassure everyone that this community is safe and that we should be encouraging those that continue to come across our border to enjoy this great cultural institution, this is a place where you really want to come and visit, spend some time here, spend your hard earned money on the great institutions that we have in this community.”

Performances at the Stratford Festival resumed on Tuesday with increased security in place, police continue to investigate the incident.
