Special Weather Statement issued with lots of rain followed by very hot conditions in the forecast

Things are going to get wet before they get hot.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for our area with heavy showers and thunderstorms expected early Wednesday morning through midday.

They say total local rainfall amounts could be in the 30 to 50 mm range, with higher amounts possible under the heaviest storms.

A persistent southwest flow is then expected to develop, according to the agency, bringing hot and humid air from the Gulf of Mexico.

Beginning Friday or Saturday and continuing through the Canada Day long weekend, expected daytime highs are in the low to mid thirties with humidex values in the mid forties.

It isn’t known just yet when the warm weather will leave and this is expected to be the hottest weather we’ve seen so far this season.
