Cow in Perth County confirmed to have rabies

There is now a sixth confirmed case of a cow with rabies in Perth County since 2015.

The Perth District Health Unit says the latest case was in a calf located in Mornington Ward who tested positive for rabies.

They say that since 2015 there has also been two confirmed rabid skunks.

Rabies is almost always fatal in animals, according to the PDHU, who say it is normally spread to humans through a bite, scratch, cut or contact with the moist tissues of the mouth, nose and eyes.
