The MP for Perth-Wellington says our riding was well represented at the Conservative policy convention in Halifax.
John Nater was in attendance at the three-day convention where he says over three-thousand delegates discussed policies on issues including trade, agriculture, taxation, health and skills training.
The convention came at the same time Maxime Bernier announced he’s leaving the Conservatives to form his own party in time for the 2019 federal election, a decision Bernier says he made because he says the party is ‘morally corrupt’.
Nater says Bernier’s decision was one that is hard to take.
“I think it’s disappointing from a party standpoint and I think it’s also disappointing for the many supporters that supported him in the recent leadership race to see him get up and leave the party, so I think he made a decision, I think it’s unfortunate, but that’s the decision he made.”
Nater says during the convention he was sure to bring up issues impacting his riding including those of the agriculture sector.
