Perth District Health Unit issues heat warning for area

The Perth District Health Unit has issued a heat warning for the area.

With the temperature expected to soar over the next few days, with a high of 31 Tuesday but the humidex making it feel like 40, the health unit is reminding you to take care to prevent heat-related illnesses.

They say extreme heat can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and even death.

Seniors, infants and young children, and people with chronic illness or who take certain medications are at a greater risk of suffering from heat-related illness.

Tips for staying cool include drink plenty of cool liquids, especially water, reschedule or plan outdoor activities during cooler parts of the day and never leave people or pets in a locked vehicle in direct sunlight.

A heat warning remains in effect for the area from Environment Canada.
