Thanksgiving Community Food Drive set to get underway in Stratford

With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, you’re being called on to help those less fortunate.

On Friday and Saturday, the Thanksgiving Community Food Drive is beginning at grocery stores in Stratford and the donations collected will go to help both the Stratford House of Blessing and the Salvation Army Foodbanks.

The food drive is taking place from Friday until October 9th and there will be a ‘Stuff-A-Truck’ event on Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Giant Tiger and Zehrs to mark the beginning.

Barry Clarke is a Family Services Worker with the Stratford Salvation Army and he says the people that are helped through the food drive desperately need assistance.

“We were spending a fair bit of money this summer to get by, when you hear peoples stories it’s often circumstances beyond their control really, it’s illnesses or a disability or layoffs.”

The food bank program at the House of Blessing helped 7,471 people while the last full year saw 2026 households assisted by the Salvation Army.
