After an almost six month delay, the teardown of the former Stratford Legion building has begun again.
Kevin Larson owns Larson Holdings, the company that owns the property, and says the main delay happened at the beginning of March when the Ministry of Labour showed up at the property on St.Patrick Street and asked for a copy of the abatement certificate related to asbestos in the building.
He says the ministry reviewed the certificate and said the abatement wasn’t up to standards, meaning that the process in the building had to be completed again, with final approval from the ministry coming in the week of August 15th.
Larson says the next steps of the process are ready to be taken and the wheels are in motion for its completion.
“Over the next two and a half to three weeks our contractors will be there completely finishing the main floor and then into the basement of the existing building and then the original building gets torn down at the end because it’s closest to the road.”
Larson adds he’s hopeful that another developer will purchase the property and turn it into a residential development but he adds if that doesn’t happen he could hold onto the site and develop it himself.
