New bus shelters on the way for nine locations across Stratford

New bus stop shelters are on the way at nine locations across Stratford to help accommodate users with mobility limitations.

Stratford City Council voted at their meeting Tuesday to award a contract for the construction of the shelters, which will be five-foot by 10-foot, to Enseicom Incorporated.

Staff had been recommending purchasing shelters that would have been smaller at four feet wide and eight feet long from the same company for just over $123,500 but council decided to go with the larger structures as they better accommodate wheelchairs and scooters.

There’s less than a $4 thousand dollar difference in the cost between the smaller and larger shelters.

Funding for the structures will be pulled from the recreation capital reserve fund.

The shelters will be located at:

The Local Community Food Centre on Erie Street.

The Douglas Street walkway near Giant Tiger.

Across from the McCarthy Place Retirement Residence on McCarthy Road.

The Medical Centre on Douro Street.

House of Blessing on Erie Street.

Sobeys on O’Loane Avenue.

No Frills on O’Loane Avenue.

The entrance to Festival Marketplace Shopping Centre on C.H. Meier Boulevard.

The Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Centre on Lorne Avenue.
