Stratford Police issue warning over another phone scam

Stratford Police are warning you about another phone scam.

They say a 90-year-old Stratford resident fell victim to a scam last month where during a phone conversation the person on the other end identified themselves as the grandson of the victim.

Police say the caller stated to the victim that they had been in a car accident and needed $9400 to stay out of jail with the victim then sending money via UPS to an address in Quebec believing it was being sent to their grandson.

The victim realized this was a fraud on Wednesday when she spoke to her grandson about the return of the money, realizing that he never received it.

You’re being reminded to be aware of the many phone and internet scams that currently exist and that if someone is seeking money, double check to make sure it is from a legitimate source.
