Not installing and maintaining smoke alarms has lead to a landlord in Mitchell being fined.
The West Perth Fire Department says in a release that they fined the landlord $360 after it was discovered that a tenant-occupied property was missing smoke alarms.
Last month, the fire department says it conducted door-to-door smoke and carbon monoxide alarm checks and they say the lack of compliance was alarming.
Since March First, 2006, it has been the law for all Ontario homes to have a working smoke alarm on every storey and outside all sleeping areas.
Not complying with the requirements could result in a ticket for $360 or a fine of up to $50 thousand for individuals or $100 thousand for corporations.
