Avon Maitland District School Board Students To Take Part In Diversity Survey

Finding out more about the students that attend their schools.

That’s the idea behind the student diversity survey that’s being carried out by the Avon Maitland District School Board, it’s a pilot program from the Ministry of Education with several school boards across the province, including the AMDSB, selected to take part.

Questions about sexuality, ethnicity, languages spoken and other self-identification areas make up the survey which will be done from December 3rd to 7th with results expected to be posted on the board’s website in the spring.

Project Coordinator Laura Scott says the survey is intended to help the board learn about those they teach.

“The data that’s collected will bring clarity to a very diverse student population, it’s really so that the board can understand who our students are.”

Grade seven to twelve students will complete the survey in class while kindergarten to grade 6 students will do them at home.
