Rod Beattie says becoming a Member of the Order of Canada is about humility to him.
The veteran Stratford Festival actor received the honour during a ceremony on Tuesday at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
Beattie is a well-known figure on the Canadian theatre scene and is best known for his performances in the Wingfield series, one of the longest-running stage productions in the country.
He says being among his fellow honorees is something he’s proud of.
“You’re sitting there with forty-two other people who all have done really extraordinary things and made extraordinary contributions to Canadian life in all kinds of different fields, I mean everything from social work to brain surgery.”
Beattie adds that his next appearance on stage will be as Cardinal Wolsey in next season’s Henry VIII at the Stratford Festival.
