Stratford man sentenced after pleading guilty to careless driving causing death

A $2-thousand dollar fine, two years’ probation and three years without a driver’s license.

The Stratford Beacon Herald reports that was the sentence handed out to a 44-year-old man from the city who pleaded guilty to careless driving causing death in a courtroom on Tuesday.

The court heard that on September 16th, Ian MacArthur was driving a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder and was turning left from John Street onto Huron Street when he hit two pedestrians, Peter Ridgen and his wife Lorraine Ridgen.

Lorraine was knocked unconscious and taken to Stratford General Hospital and then to hospital London where she died from her injuries on October Third.

Peter was also taken to the SGH where he was treated for minor injuries.

Up to two years in jail could have been requested by the Crown but they decided not to based on past cases.
