Almost business as usual for Holiday waste collection in Stratford

Kate Simpson, the City’s Waste Reduction Coordinator says there are only two days where curbside collection has been postponed, “Christmas Day’s route has been moved to Saturday, December 29th in the green zone for recycling and then New Year’s Day collection has been moved to Saturday, January 5th in the blue zone for recycling.”

Regular garbage and recycling collection will happen as usual on Boxing Day.

Simpson offers this tip to reduce your household garbage, “We can recycle wrapping paper, but just not the bows and ribbons or if it’s the very shiny wrapping paper, that almost looks like tinfoil, that we cannot recycle but regular paper we can recycle.”

She says if you have a large amount of wrapping paper you can put it in a clear bag beside your blue bin but make sure it is secure so it doesn’t blow away.

Simpson says the city is offering Christmas tree collection, “Christmas tree collection is during the week of January 7th to 11th on your regular garbage day.  Also, residents can, even if you don’t have a live Christmas tree and you have extra leaf and yard waste bags, you are welcome to put that out during that week as well.”
