Things are back to normal at the three high schools in Stratford after they were locked down during a gun scare.
Stratford Police tell My Stratford Now.com that they were notified around 12:45 Wednesday afternoon about a 14-year-old student who had brought a gun to school.
They say it wasn’t known if the student was at school and as a precaution, all high schools in the city were put on lockdown and when it was determined that the student wasn’t at school the search was widened.
Around 1:20 p.m. police say the male was found at a home on Albert Street where he was arrested and a replica firearm was found in the area and seized.
The male was taken to police headquarters and after speaking with him officers say it’s not believed that he brought the firearm to school with the intent to hurt anyone.
As a result of the investigation, the teen was referred to a Diversion Program and wasn’t charged.
Stratford Police are commending the actions of the staff at Northwestern and thanking them for their cooperation at the school Wednesday afternoon.
Police say that thanks to the school staff’s cooperation, the matter was able to be handled quickly and professionally and a safe school environment was able to be maintained for all.
