Runoff possible as weather expected to turn warmer

With the weather expected to turn warmer, we could see some runoff from the snow that’s fallen.

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is reminding you to be cautious around waterways over the next few days as the forecast is calling for above freezing temperatures Sunday and Monday before returning to below freezing on Tuesday.

They say five to ten mm of rain is also forecast for Monday and UTRCA staff assessed snow conditions in the watershed this week and say they measured 20 to 40 mm of water equivalent in the snowpack which is below normal for this time of the year.

Officials say they expect the combination of rain and positive temperatures will consolidate the snowpack and may lead to some runoff.

The UTRCA does not anticipate flooding at this time.
